Not all gemstones are alike. Color, quality, rarity, natural variation and treatment can make one stone remarkably different from another.
Laura sources through trusted dealers and personally selects each bead strand, using her gemology training to judge color and quality before considering how the stones will live together.
Stones move around her worktable until the composition feels right, shades and tones you might not think to put together, balanced by an artist’s instinct over a lifetime of working with color.
Every necklace is hand-knotted on silk a knot between every gemstone.
It’s slower and more meticulous, giving the strand flexibility while helping protect the gemstones as the necklace is worn.

MEET LAURA
Laura’s relationship with color began long before The Necklace Studio. Her grandmother was an artist who loved pattern, flowers and colored gemstones, and rarely went without strands of gemstone beads around her neck.
Laura developed that instinct through a lifetime of making, painting and noticing color everywhere. And then she learned the science behind the stones.
Laura’s artistic instinct tells her what belongs together. Her gemological training tells her what she’s looking at. The Necklace Studio lives at the intersection of the two.
